On Black Panther Premiere Day, We Wear All White
An unofficial announcement was made following the release of the incredibly stunning trailer for Black Panther 2. (Shout out to Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter!) And it seems like we’re all on one accord to wear monochromatic white looks to theaters this November. White symbolizes peace, purity and goodness. And some believe it signifies the spirit world of the ancestors. Like before, having a dress code would undoubtedly lead to a sea of stunning and meaningful visuals from theaters around the world. But since the movie premieres this Fall, let’s lay some foundational “suggestions” for putting our looks together. Shall we?
WINTER WHITE
You can wear white any time of year as long as you match the fabric to the season. Once temperatures start to dip, it’s time to trade the white cotton and linen for heavier fabrics like corduroy, wool, and cashmere. These will look fabulous and help you stay warm when it’s cold outside.
YEAR ‘ROUND WHITE
White button-down shirts and blouses are appropriate all year. Pair it with a blazer, sweater or jacket. White t-shirts are also appropriate all year. Opt for a longer sleeve to layer and keep warm.
TEXTURED WHITE
To stand out more, look for pieces with texture and great construction details. Some great examples are a white leather trench, a quilted bomber jacket, sherpa duster, fur coat, tweed miniskirt or a great pair of tailored leather pants.
WHITE ACCESSORIZED
You can always play up the accessories with a fringe scarf, or a flattering, belt with chain or fringe details. Rock a fabulous brim (hat), a large, eye-catching metal or stone necklace/earrings or a pair of knock-’em-dead shoes.
WHITE SHOES
White shoes often complete a summer ensemble, making the whole look crisp and pulled-together. Keeping the formality of the shoes in line with the rest of your outfit is important and there are instances where white shoes can work during the cold weather months. Consider a white boot (thigh high, knee or mid-calf, chelsea), bootie (combat, platform, etc.) or sneaker. But remember when it comes to shoes, you don't have to go head-to-toe white! In fact, the contrast of the black boot helps ground an all-white ensemble in the Fall and Winters.
UNDER GARMENTS
Always wear flesh-colored undergarments under white clothes. If you wear white bras, panties, slips, or camisoles, the outline will show underneath your clothes…and we don’t want that. Brands like Natori and Naked Wardrobe offer great color options. If you can’t find a tone to match your flesh, opt for black.
I hope these tips lead us to some amazing picturesque moments at the premiere on November 11th. I’ll see y’all there!
