I’m giving this year’s Met Gala Red Carpet some grace. We’re finally outside again. Some people have no idea what to wear now. While others want to show off their best assets.  And while Gilded Glamour celebrates a significant time in American fashion history, the trends could be considered a bit boring (even complicated) compared to what is fashionable or Red Carpet-worthy today. After all, one of the most controversial pieces of clothing during The Gilded Age was the skort (skirt/shorts).

Needless to say, most people ditched the theme and wore what they wanted.

Kim Kardashian wore an archived dress worn by Marilyn Monroe, who was born 26 years after The Gilded Age ended. And I’m pretty sure Francesco Risso wore Chuck Taylors with his Marni suit. Then, there were those who got creative with modern takes on the theme like Normani in a velvet two-piece bubble gown by Christian Siriano and Erykah Badu in an incredibly embellished suit by Marni (it was her signature exaggerated top hat for me).

Given my research of the time period and its fashion trends, here are the celebrities who (were not my favorites looks, but) hit the theme. Then, those who pulled off modern takes of Gilded Glamour and some honorable mentions. Because let’s be honest…some of the girls pulled up, set their own table and ate!
