Quick Change: The Best Met After Party Looks
After the show, it’s the after party. That means a quick change for Met Gala attendees and the chance to make an initial statement for those who weren’t invited. Unlike the Red Carpet (where typically women get the attention for eye-catching fashion), the men turned up with great after-party looks, too. Overall, it was a scene for great texture, outerwear and accessories.
Leather So Soft
The temperature is dropping and we are just a few weeks away from Fall. So it was fitting for celebrities like Shawn Mendes and Teyana Taylor to hit the streets of NYC in classic leather looks. A nod to 70s fashion, Teyana Taylor wore a multi-brown and black patchwork leather trench to the Pyer Moss after party in Brooklyn. I love the added fishnet detail for a skirt effect.
No item is more crucial to a closet than a great leather jacket. Sean Mendes mixed textures by pairing a leather jacket with velvet bootcut pants. The no shirt edit and mixed metal accessories give the look a rock star vibe. And then there’s Dan Levy who wore an incredible pair of leather pants by Loewe. The grommets, buckles and extended length on the sleeves are great details. The shoe wear and eyewear tie in for extra attention to detail.
Supersized Jackets
Oversized jackets make it easier to be ready—and cozy—for any weather. American playwright and actor Jeremy O. Harris stuck with the Met Gala theme at Rihanna’s afterparty. He wore a rugby shirt and American-flag detailed bootcut jeans from the Tommy Hilfiger archives. The repurposed Aaliyah-inspired yellow coat was a repeat from the Gala’s red carpet.
A$AP Rocky may not have made the strongest impression wrapped in grandma’s quilt for the red carpet, but the yellow leather shearling he wore to Rihanna’s after party had fashionably redeeming qualities.
Accessorized
Singer and Songwriter Lucky Daye attended multiple Met Gala after parties in a brown printed suit with lace and open-back detailing by Daily Paper. The onyx and pearl accessories are Veert, a Tanzanian-German jewelry design company.
